Atheism is Illogical
Atheism is a lack of belief in the existence of God. Atheists have a naturalistic worldview as there is no supernatural creator; humans resulted from chance random chemical accidents. They believe truth must be proved by science and reason; they believe religion ignores science and reason. (Science itself has no compassion for applying solutions in virtuous ways, it must come from someplace beyond science.)
Naturalism believes the world is driven by environmental causes, actions and decisions are simply DNA-driven chemical responses in the brain; this means no one is really responsible for their behaviors, no one is guilty or innocent of their actions. Atheism provides no basis for law, and no basis for rationality. A peaceful, ordered, and just society cannot be formed under atheism; instead it’s a world with no foundation for joy, hope, and love; a depressing world with no meaning to life; in the end nothing matters. Avowed atheist Richard Dawkins stated, there is “no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.” If we are just a collection of chemicals, how can we love, forgive, hope, have joy, honor others, have meaning, respect human rights, desire justice, appreciate beauty?
As Jean-Jacques Rousseau predicted, we are realizing a society where “feelings will be more important than reason and sincerity will trump truth.” Naturalism provides no foundation of objective moral standards to guide acceptable cultural behaviors. Moral relativity and subjective truth erode personal integrity and respect for rule of law. Society becomes a mobocracy where those who shout the loudest win the culture war. (Ultimately atheists realize they need an objective moral standard; a standard sourced from somewhere beyond themselves.)
People need a sense of belonging, a sense of meaning and purpose; things atheism does not provide. We see increasing rates of anxiety and depression as people search for an identity. We find secular individuals vying for attention, meaning, and significance.
Christianity’s objective truth provides a foundation for culture; good and evil, beauty, virtue, and purpose are critical to our existence. Christianity provides the things that allow for reason, moral progress, and applying science virtuously. Christians have a shared communal consciousness, a shared existence. Under Christianity humans are created in God’s image and possess inherent value, dignity, and equality, things abstract science and naturalism cannot provide. Reason, consciousness, and virtue are not the result of atheistic enlightenment, they came from God!
