Proto Evangelerium (IA)
The Gospels don’t start with Matthew in the New Testament! One scripture that is seldom preached in Churches, is called Proto Evangelerium, or “first gospel.” It comes from Genesis 3:15. God is informing Adam and Eve the conditions that will come upon their lives, and ours! The good news is that in one, short, simple, sentence, the promise is that a man, (Jesus), born of a woman (Mary) will come and crush the head of satan. There will be an end to evilness! But while we live, satan will always be seeking to destroy us; nipping at our faith. In one sentence the stage is set for Jesus to arrive back on earth. This is the first recorded promise of good news that God made to humans. Christ in God, is the only one who can help us. In the future when Jesus comes, His presence will offer salvation to all who believe. Trusting in the Son and worshiping Him, will give us the strength to survive satan’s lies. If satan succeeds in his quest to destroy us, it means we have given up our search for redemption, thus losing our salvation, also. Christ came about 4,000 years later but by that time humans wouldn’t believe Jesus was the Messiah; He was rejected. He did not fit their conceived ideas of what a Messiah should be. God met with His people, rescued them many times from nations and even built a Holy city in Jerusalem. Satan’s nipping was an effective weapon against those who did not hear or believe Scripture. Jesus many times said, let those who have ears to hear, let them hear. In other words, pay attention to His truth. Our Messiah’s main purpose is to have us help in the spreading of the Good News. If we believe in His words we must be willing to advance the good news of the Kingdom. Jesus did not lie, He is the only one who can help us with the sin in our lives. What can we learn from this “protoevangelerium”? God has always, from the beginning of time, been present in the lives of his people and willing to forgive. How wonderful is that? He is always willing to place us on righteous ground, heading in the right direction that leads to eternal living in the resurrected Garden, Heaven.
