Supporting the East Marshall bond issue

As a resident of the East Marshall Community School District, parent of 3 current East Marshall students, wife of an alumni and 20 year educator in the district, and part of a family with long term ties to the district, I am writing to express my strong support for the East Marshall Community School District Bond issue aimed at consolidating our three school buildings into two and updating our facilities. My family has chosen to live, work in, and support this distract because we feel it is a place where they are able to receive a great education with dedicated and caring educators. ...

Mark Doland is a good listener

Mark Doland will do a good job as Tama County Supervisor because he understands the most important thing about public service. Put simply, he is a good listener. Mark will use good judgment and common sense that comes from a conservative approach to issues. County government is funded by property tax. Mark will be stingy with the property taxpayer’s dollar. It is said that the most important government is that which is closest to the people. Local elections at the county level work on everyday issues. We need more people like Mark Doland to run for office and receive our ...

Hardin County voters can’t be bought

What would you do with $6,625.64? I’ll tell you what I’d do. I’d pay for a couple semesters of tuition at Ellsworth Community College. Maybe make a down payment on a reliable car. Save it to pay for groceries. Perhaps I’d invest it for a rainy day. What I wouldn’t do is attempt to buy the votes of Hardin County voters. $6,625.64 is how much liberal Democrat Lisa Lawler has spent this far on her run for County Supervisor. As a young lady in my early twenties I’ve read her lambasting every current elected official and their spending yet she’s the one throwing $6,625.64. ...

Supporting Nan Benson

I have served as both a precinct election official and a precinct chairman for many years in Marshall County. Each election I have received the training and support from the County Auditor that is needed to do my job. Training is not just how to use the computer and do the paperwork but also how to handle the many different situations that come up on election day and most of all how to respect each voter. Nan Benson and her staff are always available to answer questions and do everything they can to make my job easier. The amount of behind the scenes work that is done to hold an election ...

Important decision/consequences for GMG bond issue vote

In over 40 years teaching/coaching, I always emphasized consequences when it came to decision making for students/players/parents. I am writing to make clear the consequences of this bond issue vote. If the bond issue does not pass, it signals the end of the GMG district as we know it. Garwin has a 100-year-old terribly inefficient building, which has had two recent catastrophic events. People clearly need to understand the vote is about where you want your taxes to go whether the district goes to whole grade sharing or is dissolved. Whatever happens means property taxes will be ...

Sue Cahill: A dedicated and trusted professional

The recent editorial by Police Chief Mike Tupper endorsing our Iowa State House Representative, Sue Cahill hit all the pertinent topics but what that stands out most in my mind are these TV ads that are a pack of lies…We all know they totally misrepresent the Sue Cahill we have elected to the State House and will do so again this election. Sue Cahill is currently serving her second term representing Marshalltown at the Iowa Statehouse and doing an excellent job keeping the citizens and local issues upmost in her daily life. Sue was a guiding force in our school system and took great ...
