Thankful for support of Iowa River Hospice golf tournament

The Iowa River Hospice family wants to express our sincere gratitude to the communities we serve for your unimaginable support of our first annual Iowa River Hospice golf tournament held last month. To say we were overwhelmed by the number of teams, sponsorships, donations and volunteers does not begin to describe the emotions we have experienced over the last few weeks. To the teams who participated, thank you for showing up and sharing your laughter and spirit across the entire course. To the sponsors, each one of you, including tournament, hole, and cart, thank you for believing in ...

Marshalltown NEAT update

Marshalltown has come a long way since the devastation caused by the tornado and derecho. Many areas have been completely rebuilt, and while crisis funding provided some of the initial seed money to get things started, it is the people of Marshalltown who have truly stepped up. The Nuisance Enforcement Advisory Taskforce (NEAT) Subcommittee, made up of 2 council members and a group of concerned citizens, is exploring additional initiatives to support the community. These include considering no charge compost dates for residents to dispose of brush and yard waste at the compost center ...

In response to Erick Erickson

In response to Erick Erickson’s comments of October 7. Does Erick, as opposed to President Biden’s diplomatic efforts, support a wide war to include the USA with Iran at this time? An Iranian use of a nuclear weapon on Israel would be a suicide decision for their repressive regime. Harris would have the level head and intelligence to deal with this. With President Biden’s leadership, the threatened dockworkers strike was avoided. Unions are imperative to protect the folks who actually produce while the owners pocket the profits, often without sharing. A vote for Trump is a ...

Lawler for Hardin County Supervisor

A letter to the editor can be described as a call to action. I’m writing my letter to ask every eligible voter in Hardin County to do 2 things. First, consider the importance of balance in nearly every aspect of life. If you physically suffer from balance issues, falling or being dizzy is a serious problem. If you don’t balance your checkbook, it can seriously disrupt your family finances. As a pharmacist, using a scale to balance chemicals was critical to getting reliable results. Lisa Lawler, will bring better balance to the county supervisors and ensure that all voices and ...

Questions on Reimagine Miller

I read the article on the Reimagine Miller project, and did not see any information on the infrastructure of the building. Power supply, Solar, heat pump or wind. Why not add power supplies that can be helpful. And maybe roof gardens or green houses to teach about growing our own food, which the harvest could be used in the cafeteria to offset food costs. Just wondering about those things. If we can’t get the test scores up, teach practical skills that the students can use in the future, that is a lot of money to spend, and all I have seen is how pretty it is going to look.

Freedom of speech

The scariest thing I have heard in many years was an interview with John Kerry (the Democrat climate czar flying in a private jet). He actually said the 1st amendment needs to be done away with. To stop disinformation. That is totally Marxist. Hillary wants the internet monitored. Not much nice said about her? Disinformation. Parents should monitor their own. It’s not the government’s job. Who determines what is disinformation? Well, other Marxists like John Kerry. We, the people, aren’t capable of running our government. Remember that Marxism is always run by the person ...
