Fisher, Hexter give voters a clear choice

Thank you very much for the extensive and thorough coverage of the recent debate in Tama between the candidates for Iowa House District 53. The descriptions of the present state of affairs in Iowa were contrasted and visions for the future were also stated clearly. Mr. Hexter and Mr. Fisher give voters a clear choice in this election. Iowa is not the leader in education it once was, and our state government chose that decline to save money and divide its citizens on purpose. Banning books and legislating bathrooms and sports participation are just distractions. Iowa’s water and ...

Leave profanity off of political signs

Just curious if there is a city ordinance against the awful four letter word displayed on political flags and signs we see around town. If the Republican were to win, I hope Democrats show more intelligence than this vulgar type of display. If there is such an ordinance, let’s get it cleaned up, so everyone’s children don’t have to be exposed to this bad language.

I like to remind Republicans like Dean Fisher abortion became legal in the year 1973 when Republican Nixon was president. It was a Republican supreme court that made abortion legal. Most of the judges on that court were appointed by Republican Nixon and Eisenhower when they were president. Who is more likely to cause a woman to want abortion VP Harris or Donald Trump? It is Trump who has been divorced multiple times for cheating on his wives. It is Trump who pays a porn star over $100,000 to keep her mouth shut. Liar Trump will tell us he never paid for an abortion to one of the women he ...

Vote for David Blom

Dear Voters of Iowa House District 52, As a lifelong resident of Southeast Marshall County, since 1947, a farmer and longtime retail seed dealer, my wife and I ask you to consider David Blom as your representative. He is a remarkable young man who would excel in promoting Marshall County and representing District 52 in Des Moines. We became acquainted with David through his friendship with several of our grandsons, particularly during his time on the Brickburners team in the Lego League Robotic contests, where they won state and represented Iowa nationally. David is a lifelong ...

SCOTUS was right to overrule Chevron Doctrine

This year, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major blow to the federal bureaucracy. On June 28, a 6-3 majority of the Court issued a landmark opinion overruling the Chevron Doctrine. For decades, due to the Chevron Doctrine, federal courts deferred to federal agencies when ambiguous provisions of a law were in question. Instead, courts empowered unelected bureaucrats to decide how to implement laws – including burdensome rules and regulations – when there was a lack of clear, legislative guidance. This precedent – now struck down – was abused and gave an incredible amount of ...

Vote for Nan Benson

I am writing this letter in support of Nan Benson for Marshall County Auditor/Recorder. Nan is a Marshall County native, born and raised, with a deep understanding of Iowa election laws and procedures. She has shown honesty, integrity and trustworthiness in everything she has done as an elected county official. This past January, any delays or errors in her office due to changes to the file format by the Iowa Department of Management and not communicated to the Marshall County Real Estate Programmer were rectified in the swiftest way possible. Nan is a Certified Public Accountant ...
