AGWSR grad Sicard honored by ICCAC

BOONE — Former AGWSR softball standout Ashley Sicard has been honored with selection to the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference all-Division II second team, the league announced Monday.

Sicard, a 2015 AGWSR graduate, helped the DMACC pitching staff to a share of the ICCAC Division II championship and most recently a berth into the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national tournament. Sicard tossed a five-hit shutout in the second game of a best-of-three series against North Platte CC on Sunday, walking two and striking out six in the win that clinched a national berth for the fifth-ranked Bears (46-7).

Sicard ranked fourth in the ICCAC with a 2.00 earned run average, fifth in strikeouts per seven innings (6.24), sixth in total strikeouts (109) and eighth in innings pitched (122 1/3). She takes a 19-3 record into nationals, going the distance in 11 of her 24 starts in the circle for DMACC.

Sicard was a three-time, first-team all-state softball selection as a pitcher for AGWSR, helping lead the Cougars to three-straight state tournament appearances and a Class 1A championship her senior season. Sicard was a four-time first-teamer in the NICL West Division and was twice named the Times-Republican’s All-Area Softball Player of the Year.
