Bobcats’ Vance gains all-conference honor

Nate Vance

Marshalltown junior Nate Vance notched his third all-conference baseball honor as he was the lone Bobcat named to the CIML Iowa Conference’s first team.

It’s the second first-team laurel for Vance, who last summer was Marshalltown’s only representative on the all-Central Iowa Conference Northern Division first team. He was an honorable mention pick as a freshman.

This season, Vance threw a CIML Iowa-high 59 2/3 innings for the Bobcats, going 4-6 on the mound with 46 strikeouts and a 3.28 earned run average. As a center fielder, Vance also batted .317 with a team-leading 24 runs scored, one double and 12 RBIs. He also led Marshalltown with 26 walks, 24 stolen bases on 29 attempts and a potent .478 on-base percentage.

The Bobcats were without a player on the all-CIML Iowa Conference second team, leaving them with nine honorable mention selections. Marshalltown seniors Jordan Smiley and Miguel Torrez, juniors Sam Irwin, Noah DeVenney and Kody Ricken, and sophomores Tate Kuehner, Wade Canaday, Dylan Eygabroad and Dru Dobbins were honored.
