Timmer named MVC men’s Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS — Drake University senior Reed Timmer has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. This is the second time this month and third time this season Timmer has received the honor.

Timmer, Drake’s all-time scoring leader, earned the honor after averaging 29.5 points per game in a pair of wins by shooting 54.8 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from behind the 3-point line.

He opened the week with a historic performance and a career-high 39 points in a win over Indiana State. His 39 points were the most by a Bulldog since 2016 and the second most since 1981 as well as the most by any MVC player this season. Timmer went 11-of-19 in the game and 8-of-15 behind the arc, with his eight 3-pointers falling one shy of the school record and Knapp Center record.

As an encore, Timmer scored 20 points in a road win over Missour State, including a game-winning 3-pointer with just 1.8 seconds left.

Timmer and the Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest at Illinois State.
