MCC’s Thiam an NJCAA All-American

Mohamed Thiam

The National Junior College Athletic Association has announced its All-American list and Marshalltown Community College sophomore Mohamed Thiam has been selected to the third team.

Thiam, a 6-foot-9 forward from Dakar, Senegal, finished his career for the Tigers with 592 points this season, good enough for 25th in the NJCAA Division I and enough to put him at 1,005 points for his career. He is only the fifth total player to receive All-American honors for MCC and the first since Tyler Brown was given a second-team honor in 2011.

“This is a well deserved honor for a great player who is an even better person,” MCC head coach Brynjar Brynjarsson said. “He has done great things for this team and our program and we know he will excel at the next level as well.”

Thiam finished 16th in country in defensive rebounds per game this year with 7.1 per game and 26th in total rebounds with 288. He was also 33rd in scoring per game with 19.7 points and 28th in rebounds per game at 9.6.

Thiam is one of the most highly touted sophomores in junior college, ranked as the No. 6 prospect by jucorecruiting.com. He has yet to make a decision on his next destination after graduating from MCC in May.
