Vest leads MHS sweep of Dodgers

FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown girls’ golf team began a four-meet week with a near-perfect start.

The Bobcats accounted for six of the best seven scores in a CIML Iowa Conference dual triumph Tuesday at Fort Dodge Country Club, drubbing the host Dodgers 192-241.

Kassy Vest won medalist honors with her round of 45, Bella Russell was runner-up with a 46, Emily Hass was third overall with a 49 and Ciara Feldman made it a clean sweep of the top-four for the Bobcat seniors with her 52.

“Our seniors were leaders tonight, putting together our four counting scores,” said MHS head coach Lucas Johnson. “Kassy Vest and Bella Russell both managed the course well and kept the ball in places they could score from.”

Kyra Feldman (53) and Emma Younkin (56) rounded out the Bobcats’ lineup, which improved to 3-0 overall and in divisional play.

“There are a few places at Fort Dodge Country Club, especially on and around the greens, where a golfer can give away strokes in a hurry if they aren’t careful,” Johnson said. “In that way, our experience with the course showed in the final scores.”

Marshalltown is scheduled to make up the Valley Classic starting at 10 a.m. today at Willow Creek Golf Course in West Des Moines, and the Bobcats host Johnston for a CIML Iowa dual on Thursday at Elmwood Country Club. On Friday, MHS visits Westwood Golf Course for the Newton Invite.

“We’re slated for four meets in four days this week, which can do nothing but strengthen the girls’ games as we head into the home stretch of the season,” added Johnson.
