SPORTS SHORTS: West Marshall falls to ranked Comets

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall baseball team lost to Class 3A No. 8 North Polk on Tuesday, 11-3.

Parker Hulbert started the game for the Trojans (19-11), but Ryan Reyerson pitched most of the game, going four innings while allowing four hits, three runs and two walks and striking out three.

Cameron Bannister went 2-for-3 with a run, and Jake Tollefson finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

West Marshall next faces Don Bosco on Thursday in State Center, starting at 7 p.m.

East Marshall outscores South Tama

TAMA — The East Marshall baseball team won a non-conference game against South Tama County on Tuesday, 15-10.

Zach Jacobson earned the win for the Mustangs (10-14), pitching two innings and allowing one hit and one run while striking out one and walking three.

Austin Elliot was 4-for-6 at the plate for East Marshall with two triples, three RBIs and four runs scored. Justin Ridout finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, a double and two runs scored, while Wesley Hamor went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs against the Trojans (12-16).

The Mustangs play in the first round of districts on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Des Moines Christian in Colfax.

BCLUW baseball pushes past GMG

GREEN MOUNTAIN — The BCLUW baseball team earned a non-conference win against GMG on Tuesday night, 14-11.

The Comets (12-12) trailed the Wolverines (4-16) heading into the seventh inning, 9-6, but BCLUW scored eight runs in the top of the seventh and GMG couldn’t answer back with enough to continue the game.

Troy Dolphin and Koty Kruse both pitched 3 1/3 innings for the Comets, while Calob Keller picked up the save by retiring the only batter he faced. As a staff they struck out six and walked 11.

Carson Wobeter took the loss for the Wolverines, as he, Kolton Gill and Logan Anderson all combined to strike out seven and walk 11.

Blake Mann had a solo home run in the fifth inning for BCLUW, his second of the season, while Troy Dolphin had a single, a two-run home run in the third, and a three-run double in the seventh that put the Comets in the lead.

BCLUW hosts South Hardin on Thursday for its regular-season finale, and a win will net a share of the NICL West Division title. GMG finishes its regular season with a home game against Baxter on Friday.

Trojans outscore Wolverines 16-6 in 6

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall baseball team downed GMG on Monday, 16-6 in six innings.

Gabe Jones earned the win for the Trojans (19-10), pitching four innings and allowing three hits and three runs while striking out four and walking four.

Cameron Bannister went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Brayden Evertsen, Alex Dickey and Jake Tollefson all went 2-for-3.
