Redhawks wallop Warhawks in opener

NEW SHARON — The North Tama football team started its season off in a big way on Friday with a 69-6 drubbing of North Mahaska.

Hale Hulme did the most damage for the Redhawks (1-0) with three rushing touchdowns and on passing score. Hulme went for 81 yards rushing on just four carries, and he was 1-for-2 through the air with a 44-yard touchdown strike to Tyler Morrison.

Skyler Staker went 2-for-3 for 53 yards and a touchdown at quarterback, his strike strike going to Cael Even for a 48-yard score.

As a team North Tama ran for 296 yards and seven touchdowns against the Warhawks (0-1).

Cory Isenhower was the leader defensively with five total tackles, four of them solo and three for loss, including a sack. Staker also had a sack and two solo tackles, while Noah Bond, Tayten Payne and Luke Pennell all also had two solo tackles.

Even, Pennell and Adam Greiner each had an interception, with Even taking his to the house for a 29-yard score, and Zade Podhajsky recovered a fumble.

The Redhawks next host Lisbon for their home opener on Friday.
