Hawkeyes’ Gustafson earns more awards

University of Iowa women’s basketball senior standout Megan Gustafson earned two national recognitions on Wednesday.

Gustafson was named the Naismith Women’s Player of the Week by the Atlanta Tipoff Club and she was chosen to the Wooden Award Midseason Top-25 list.

Gustafson averaged 24.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and four blocks in a pair of wins over Nebraska and Wisconsin last week. She led all scorers with 28 points and 17 boards in a win over the Huskers, and she had 21 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a win over the Badgers.

The Wooden midseason list is comprised of the 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the John R. Wooden All-American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award, as chosen by a poll of national women’s college basketball media members.

Gustafson ranks in the top-seven nationally in eight categories. She leads the nation in field-goal percentage at 71.1 percent, double-doubles with 13, points per game at 26.8 and field goal makes with 143. Gustafson is also third in total points with 349 and defensive rebounds per game with 10, and she’s fifth in rebounds per game at 12.9.
