SPORTS SHORTS: Iowa’s DeSanto shares Big Ten honor

ROSEMONT, Ill. — University of Iowa sophomore Austin DeSanto has been named Big Ten Conference Co-Wrestler of the Week, sharing the honor with Indiana’s Jake Danishek, the league office announced Tuesday.

DeSanto climbed to No. 4 at 133 pounds in the national rankings following a 6-4 decision against No. 3 Nick Suriano from Rutgers on Jan. 18. DeSanto erased a 3-0 deficit and scored the winning takedown with 1.5 seconds left. It was his second straight win over a top-six opponent, and DeSanto is now 12-1 overall with victories in his last eight straight.

The Big Ten weekly honor is the first of DeSanto’s career, and the second for Iowa this season. Kaleb Young earned the first honor for the Hawkeyes on Nov. 27.
