Missouri outscores ISU wrestling, 23-15

AMES — The fifth-ranked Missouri wrestling team utilized bonus points to beat No. 11 Iowa State on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum, prevailing 23-15 to close the regular season for both squads.

The Tigers (16-1) and Cyclones (10-4) both won five bouts, but Missouri made off with the win behind two pins and a technical fall to bolster their scoring.

Jaydin Eierman pinned Ian Parker at 141 pounds and Daniel Lewis decked Marcus Coleman at 174, and John Erneste added a technical fall of Austin Gomez at 133 to boost Missouri’s total.

All five Iowa State wins came by decision — Gannon Gremmel at 285, Alex Mackall at 125, Jarrett Degen at 149, Sam Colbray at 184 and Willie Miklus at 197.

Degen was the only ISU wrestler to score more than five points in a win, defeating Brock Mauller 11-4.

Next up for the Cyclones is the Big 12 Championships on March 9-10 in Tulsa, Okla., and the NCAA Championships are March 21-23 in Pittsburgh.
