BCLUW boys advance, along with 5 individuals

GRUNDY CENTER — GMG senior Aaron Fleming, North Tama sophomore Paden Ketter and the BCLUW boys golf team have advanced through their Class 1A sectional meet after Friday’s 18-hole tournament at Town & Country Golf Club.

Host Grundy Center won the sectional title with a 339 team score and AGWSR was second with a 346, while BCLUW gained the extra qualifying spot by holding off GMG, 381-385. North Tama wasn’t far back with its 391, but Ketter came through for the Redhawks individually.

Fleming shot an 84 and Ketter finished with an 85 as the local pair represented the top two individual finishers not already on a qualifying team. AGWSR’s Alex Hames was meet medalist with his 7-over-par 79, while Grundy Center’s Dexter Whitehill and Ashton Martens closed at 82.

BCLUW senior Lane Stanley led his squad into the next round with his 84. The Comets also got contributing scores of 92 from Kade Pekarek, 102 from Ray Callaway, and 103s by both Tristen Gallentine and Isaac Kopsa.

Ryan Hunt was the next-best finisher for GMG, shooting a 96, while Kamrin Chizek carded a 100 and Brayden Peterson came in with a 105.

Also tallying to the team score for North Tama were Andrew Lidgett (96), Skyler Staker (101) and Zane Nelson (109).

Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s only two competitors on the day were Tyson Creswell (99) and Trey Eggers (125).

Fleming, Ketter and the entire Comet squad advance to next Friday’s district meet at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls, with play starting at 10 a.m.

EM’s Fahrni moves on

PARKERSBURG — East Marshall senior Brayden Fahrni shot an 81 to advance to districts from Friday’s Class 2A sectional boys golf meet at Legend Trail Golf Club.

Fahrni finished as the second-place individual on a non-qualifying team, trailing only Hudson’s Jacob Wiersma and his round of 80.

The Mustangs were unable to advance as a team, however. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows won the sectional title with a 344, host Aplington-Parkersburg was second with a 357, and South Hamilton took the bonus spot into the next round with a 358.

Fahrni will represent the Mustangs at the 2A district meet next Friday at Fox Ridge Golf Course at Dike, starting at 10 a.m.

Pair of Trojans advance

WOODWARD — The West Marshall duo of Conley Petermeier and Caleb Keigan gained advancement to next week’s boys golf districts after finishing as the top two individuals on a non-qualifying team at Friday’s Class 2A sectional meet at Woodward Golf Club.

Petermeier, a senior, shot an 85 while Keigan, a junior, carded a 95 to advance individually. The Trojans were unable to move through as a team, as Des Moines Christian (322), Woodward-Granger (368) and Roland-Story (371) scored the top three spots. Des Moines Christian accounted for the four lowest scores, while Petermeier tied for the fifth-best round of the tournament.

West Marshall was three strokes back of the third position with its 374. Jake Vawter and Jorgen Sogge both shot 97 to round out the Trojans’ scoring contributions.

Petermeier and Keigan will tee it up at 10 a.m. next Friday at the district meet at Carroll Country Club in Carroll.
