SPORTS SHORTS: Comets fall to No. 1 Collins-Maxwell

CONRAD — The Class 1A No. 13 BCLUW softball found out how it stacks up against top-ranked Collins-Maxwell, falling 4-0 in Tuesday’s rated showdown.

Kiersten Kruse pitched seven strong innings for the Comets (8-4), allowing just one run until the visiting Spartans (5-0) scored three times in the top of the seventh.

BCLUW got just two hits against Collins-Maxwell hurler Mikayla Houge, who struck out seven and walked one. The two hits were twice as many as Houge had allowed in her team’s previous four games.

Lili Wilson went 1-for-1 with a third-inning walk and a sixth-inning single. Her courtesy runner Kenna Paxson advanced to third after the hit in the sixth, but that was as far as the Comets got on the bases. Parker Scurr added a bunt single in the fourth but was caught stealing.

BCLUW hosts Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Thursday night before this weekend’s Dave Lee Classic.
