Rebels fall to another ranked foe

Eli Thede

JACKSON JUNCTION — Turkey Valley scored 24 consecutive points in the second and third quarters to thwart the Gladbrook-Reinbeck football team’s early challenge, as the No. 5 Trojans took a 48-14 victory over the Rebels in Friday’s non-district 8-Man game.

Turkey Valley (2-0) got four rushing touchdowns from quarterback Ethan Leibold, who hit paydirt from 2, 3, 1 and 13 yards out. He had two of the three scores that helped the Trojans build separation from the Rebels (0-2) after Eli Thede’s 4-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion catch had brought Gladbrook-Reinbeck within 16-8 at the midpoint of the second quarter.

Thede caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Cullen Eiffler with five seconds left in the third quarter, snapping Turkey Valley’s run of 24-straight points.

Leibold finished with just 43 yards rushing but four TDs, and he completed 9-of-11 passes for 124 yards for the Trojans. Dylan Elsbernd led Turkey Valley with 73 rushing yards, and Elijah Nymeyer had five catches for 62 yards.

Keagan Giesking led Gladbrook-Reinbeck with 14 carries for 135 yards, while Thede added 41 yards but on 17 attempts.

Turkey Valley outgained the Rebels in total offense, 326-236.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck gets into 8-Man District 5 play next Friday night, hosting the Meskwaki Warriors for a 7 p.m. contest.
