Rebels beat AGWSR for district title

Keagan Giesking

GLADBROOK — The Gladbrook-Reinbeck defense pitched its third district shutout and the Rebel offense ran through AGWSR with ease, and G-R locked up the 8-Man District 2 title for the second year in a row with a 40-0 victory over the Cougars on Friday night.

Keagan Giesking carried the ball 29 times for 289 yards and four-straight touchdowns between the second and fourth quarters, helping Gladbrook-Reinbeck (6-2, 6-0) persistently pull away for the win. Giesking had touchdown runs of 9, 42, 17 and 32 yards to help the Rebels put AGWSR (6-2, 5-1) in their rear-view mirror.

Eli Thede added 49 yards and the first eight points for G-R, giving the Rebels an 8-0 lead with his 15-yard touchdown dash and ensuing two-point conversion run.

Danny Gleissner got the final touchdown for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, going in from 1 yard out with 6:06 left in the game.

AGWSR was held scoreless for the first time this season, having averaged 56.3 points per game coming into the showdown for the district crown. The Cougars managed just 173 yards of total offense, as quarterback Titan Opperman ran for 45 yards and threw for 37 more. He was intercepted once as AGWSR’s six-game win streak came to a halt.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck carries a six-game winning streak of its own into next Friday’s regular-season finale. The Rebels visit Colo-NESCO with the district title and accompanying playoff berth already secured.
