Taylor 10th in Bobcat Diving Invite

Hannah Taylor

In a preview of the upcoming Iowa Girls High School State Diving Championships, a cast of top-ranked participants battled at the Bobcat Diving Invite on Saturday at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA.

Marshalltown junior Hannah Taylor finished just shy of her season- and career-best point totals, scoring 396.20 for 10th place in a “mini state meet,” head coach Angie Nelson said.

Ankeny’s Sydney Jorgensen, ranked third in the state, came away with the second-best score of the season in winning the invite with her 494.05 total — less than 7 points ahead of top-ranked Joscelyn Buss of Ames (487.80). Sydney Hanson, ranked fifth, posted her season-best score in finishing third at 466.95.

Nine of the top-10 ranked divers competed in Saturday’s meet at the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA, which will host the CIML Iowa Conference meet on Tuesday at 5 p.m. as well as the state diving meet on Nov. 8.

Taylor, whose season-best 402.15 and all-time best 402.40 narrowly escaped her, led a quartet of Bobcats into action on Saturday. Mia Rasmussen placed 23rd with a 330.85 in her first 11-dive varsity competition, Kaisa Stanley came in 32nd with a season-best 285.75, and Kiersten Randall placed 38th.
