SPORTS SHORTS: Bobcat bats notch 23 hits vs. North
The Marshalltown baseball team piled up 23 hits during Wednesday’s home doubleheader sweep of Des Moines North (1-20), leading to wins of 10-0 in five innings and 8-5.
In the opening game, Bennett Hageman threw a one-hit shutout over five innings for the win, striking out five while walking five. Patrick Landeros and Tyne Weeden both had three hits, including a double, while Nick Rebik, Jacob Van Pelt, Tyler Dunham and Kabba Pins had two hits apiece.
In the nightcap, Hageman was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Bobcat bats to victory. Carson Johnson pitched four innings of one-run ball for the win, allowing four hits while striking out one.
Landeros had a double and two RBIs, and Aaron Seberger had a two-run single.
The Bobcats (5-15) go on the road Friday to face Class 4A No. 6 Urbandale for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
