Mustangs swept by South Hardin

LE GRAND — Senior Night didn’t go the way East Marshall wanted it to as the Mustang volleyball team was swept by Class 2A No. 11 South Hardin on Tuesday night in NICL West Division play.

The visiting Tigers (13-3, 2-0) took the match in three-straight sets, winning 25-14, 25-18, 25-13.

East Marshall was led by Lizzy Vesely with four kills, but the Mustangs totaled just 10 kills in the contest. Faith Bandstra finished with seven assists, but it was the team’s defense that led the way statistically. Camy Weeks came up with 14 digs and J.J. Westendorf added 11 more as the Mustangs got caught on their heels and couldn’t return the attack.

East Marshall (5-7, 0-2) served 40-for-41 for the match with four aces, with Weeks going 8-for-8 with one ace to lead the way.

The Mustangs visit 2A No. 12 Grundy Center next Tuesday night.
