No. 4 Ames splashes past Bobcats

AMES — A 1-2-3 sweep in the diving competition was the lone highlight of the night Tuesday as the Marshalltown’ girls swimming and diving squad was sunk by fourth-ranked Ames, 145-40.

The Bobcats’ only finish inside the top three came from its top three divers, as Abby Tollefson, Hannah Taylor and Kaisa Stanley captured spots on the podium. Tollefson scored 237.30 points to win, Taylor took silver with 212.25, and Stanley scored bronze behind her 200.60 diving total.

Marshalltown’s swimmers were left to savor third place, at best, against one of the top teams in the state.

The Bobcat 200-yard medley relay team of Taylor Jones, Klaudia Hernandez, Hannah Case and Ciera Randall combined on a time of 2 minutes, 15.8 seconds to account for one of Marshalltown’s two bronze-medal performances.

In the next event, Lesli Waltermire made her way to third place in the 200 freestyle with a clocking of 2:08.17, and Ames swept the remainder of the evening’s swimming events.
