Top-10 runners lead STC at Grinnell Invite
GRINNELL — The South Tama cross country teams logged a pair of top-10 individual performances at the Grinnell Invitational on Tuesday at the Ahrens Recreation Complex.
Trojan freshman Tommy Tyynismaa took eighth place in the boys race in a time of 17 minutes, 50.1 seconds to lead STC to fifth place out of 11 teams, while senior Alyssa Chyma placed ninth in 21:14.9 as South Tama’s girls finished ninth.
James Brant, also a freshman, finished in 12th place to help the South Tama boys achieve their top-half finish. Another frosh, Kaden Kopsa, was 40th in 20:06, and junior Trusten Rosenberger was 41st in 20:06.6. Another rookie, Braxten Rohrs, rounded out STC’s scoring effort in 55th place (21:02.2).
Behind Chyma, Jojo Tyynismaa was the next South Tama runner to reach the finish line, crossing 29th in 23:13.3. Kayla Heck was 43rd in 24:32.4, Joselin Nunez was 62nd (26:24.3) and Neena Lasley took 67th (28:17.7).
