Bobcat wrestlers score third at Lincoln Duals
DES MOINES — The Marshalltown High School wrestling team overcame a lineup with four open weights to take third place at the McGivern/Blenderman Duals on Saturday at Des Moines Lincoln.
The Bobcats dropped their first two duals of the day, falling to Ottumwa (50-30) and Glenwood (39-39, criteria) before getting a break in the action. Marshalltown closed down the day with victories over Sioux City East (44-30) and Des Moines Lincoln (44-36) to finish 2-2 in the middle of the pack.
Class 2A Glenwood went 4-0 for the team title, while Ottumwa took second with a 2-2 record because of its head-to-head win against Marshalltown.
The Bobcats had three wrestlers go undefeated on the day, led by Class 3A No. 5 Carson Williams at 220 pounds. Williams had three pins — two in the first period — and tacked on a forfeit in the final dual.
MHS heavyweight Julian Gomez also had three pins while posting an 11-3 major decision over Des Moines Lincoln’s Ivan Delgado in the final match of the day.
Luke Hageman made his way to 4-0 at 132 pounds with two pins and a pair of major decisions.
Saul Pantoja (126), Dylano Castellanos (170/182) and Gannon Williams (195) each went 3-1, including three pins for both Pantoja and Williams. Hector De La Cruz (120) and TJ Whitehead (138) both finished the day 2-2 with two pins each.
The Bobcats visit Fort Dodge twice this week, with a dual meet on Tuesday night and the CIML Iowa Conference tournament on Friday.
