MHS netters pummel Polar Bears for 1st win
DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls’ tennis team captured its first win of the season on Tuesday night, and it was never in doubt.
The Bobcats blanked Des Moines North in a CIML dual meet, beating the Polar Bears 11-0 to end a five-match losing streak to start the spring.
Marshalltown (1-5) won all nine contested matches in straight sets and accepted a pair of forfeits at the back end of the doubles lineup.
Five of the Bobcats’ nine match wins were shutouts, too, as Regan Smith stifled her opponent Natalia Guerra-Cerron in the No. 2 singles spot, 6-0, 6-0, while Kaitlyn Tiernan at No. 4 and Emily Diggins at No. 6 won by the same score.
Marshalltown’s top doubles tandem of Cassandre Lecompte and Smith also shut out their opponents, while Brianna Hargrave and Chesni Uhde did the same at No. 3 doubles.
Des Moines North won no more than three games in any of the nine matches.
The Bobcats are back in action Thursday with a road trip to Mason City.
