Dean climbs MHS charts with CIML Iowa titles
ANKENY — Marshalltown senior Deonté Dean won a pair of sprints and junior Conner smith claimed a distance race as the Bobcat boys finished fourth out of six teams at the CIML Iowa Conference meet on Tuesday night.
Dean won the 100- and 200-meter sprints in respective times of 10.69 and 21.45 seconds. His 100-meter time is now the second-fastest across all classes in Iowa, and he lowered his 200-meter mark by 37-hundredths of a second. Both times rank second in Marshalltown High School history.
Smith had nearly a four-second advantage in winning the 3,200, clocking in at 10:07.42, and he was third in the 1,600 with a time of 4:48.19.
Jaiden Buchanan tallied second place in the 400, finishing in 51.28. Aidan DeVolder scored silver in the shot put (48 feet, 4 1/2 inches) and fourth in the discus with a heave of 144-2
Dwight Joar cleared 6 feet to finish second in the high jump, and he was fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles as well. Malachi Holmes took third in the long jump, landing at 19 feet, 10 inches.
Marshalltown’s 4×100 and sprint medley relay teams both nabbed third place for their performances. The Bobcats’ quartet of Holmes, Buchanan, Jayzek Lee and Dean was one-hundredth back of runner-up Ames in the 4×100, while the foursome of Mannie Kparyea, Holmes, Dean and Buchanan bagged bronze as well.
