SPORTS SHORTS: Meyer leads West Marshall girls to triangular triumph

STATE CENTER — Ella Meyer shot a medalist round of 45 to lead the West Marshall girls’ golf team to victory in Thursday’s triangular at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

The Trojans combined to shoot 201 to defeat BCLUW (236) and Baxter (258) in addition to the West Marshall junior varsity (222).

Behind Meyer’s low round was Emma Stanley with a 49, Kalyn Polley with a 51, and both Maddy Karsjen and Keatan Pfantz finished out with a 56.

Allie Pfantz put up a 49 to lead the Trojans’ JV squad, tying for the second-best round of the day.

BCLUW was led by Lindsay Beeghly’s 52. Sydney Anderson shot a 57, Brooklyn Backhoff carded a 61 and Tatum Ridout rounded out the Comets’ scoring with a 66.

Trojan boys fourth in own golf tournament, Mustangs fifth

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall boys’ golf team came in fourth out of nine teams at its own tournament on Wednesday at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

The Trojans edged out East Marshall for fourth place, 176-184, while South Tama was eighth with its 195 total.

West Marshall was led by Joey Tollefson’s round of 40, which tied for fifth-best score of the event. Luke Vawter shot 41, Cael Pfantz carded a 47 and Brayden Smith shot 48.

East Marshall’s low round came from Seth Freese, who shot the second-best score of the day with his 39. Ethan Espenscheid shot a 46, Toby Ryan closed at 49 and Kota Sawyer shot 50.

Brayden Smith shot South Tama’s low round of 42. Matt Wiese (50), Kaden Kopsa (51), and both Ryne Kesl and Daryn Cherveny (52) closed it out for the Trojans.

Colo-NESCO’s Austin Hennick was meet medalist with his 38.

Nevada keeps West Marshall girls from winning own invite

STATE CENTER — The West Marshall girls’ golf team finished in second place and the Trojans’ junior varsity squad placed fourth at the team’s make-up tournament on Wednesday at Lincoln Valley Golf Course.

Nevada claimed the six-team tournament title with a 204, while West Marshall was second at 212, South Tama third at 216 and the West Marshall JV fourth at 222. East Marshall (234), South Hardin (249) and Prairie City-Monroe (269) completed the team scoring.

South Tama’s Ashlyn Labon was the top local individual finisher, placing third overall with her round of 50. Madison Tarbell, playing for the Trojan JV squad, tied for the fourth-best score of the day with her 51.

West Marshall’s Emma Stanley (52), Maddy Karsjen (53) and Kalyn Polley (53) each earned top-10 finishes as well. Kiki Pfantz shot the day’s 11th-best score with her 53 for the Trojans’ JV squad.

East Marshall was led by Marissa Duffy and Cami Weeks, both shooting 54.
