The Marshalltown Community College soccer team’s strong start to the 2021 season continued with the No. 20 Tigers defeating No. 5 Southeastern and No. 19 Hawkeye last week. With their performances in those games, Gabriel Dias and Gabriel Ormeneze earned Athlete of the Week honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.

Dias, a sophomore forward for the Tigers, scored two goals and assisted on one more goal in two games of action, pushing his goal tally to four for the season. Dias is one of four Tigers with four goals.

Ormeneze, playing on the opposite end of the pitch as a goalkeeper, started against Hawkeye and kept a clean sheet. It was his second game of the season. He saved five shots for the Tigers in their convincing victory.

Marshalltown CC plays Scott on the road Wednesday and starts conference play against No. 2 Iowa Western on Saturday afternoon in a 3 p.m. contest on the front lawn of the MCC campus.
