SPORTS SHORTS: Redhawks continue perfect start to season

TRAER — There was Homecoming delight for the Class A No. 5 North Tama football team Friday night in a 50-22 home win over Nashua-Plainfield. The Redhawks (4-0) led the Huskies (2-2) 30-0 at the half.

Quarterback Gabe Kopriva threw for 326 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 18-for-28 passing. Devin McKinley had seven catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns (one of them coming on a pitch from Michael Bell), while Bell caught six passes for 139 yards and one score.

On the ground, Kopriva ran the ball seven times for 112 yards and two scores. McKinley added an 84-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Mustangs pound Panthers on Homecoming

LE GRAND — A second win of the season was in the cards for East Marshall football Friday, as the Mustangs claimed a 46-18 victory over Central Springs (0-4) on Homecoming thanks to a strong performance from senior Garret Kerber.

Kerber carried the ball 27 times for 180 yards and three touchdowns, Tim Benson carried the ball 17 times for 109 yards and two scores, while quarterback Bo Lee had six carries for 54 yards and one score. Lee completed 8-of-11 passes for 107 yards.

Kerber also had a 38-yard pick-six for the Mustangs (2-2).

Gladbrook-Reinbeck romps past Tripoli

TRIPOLI — A 34-0 halftime lead was more than enough for Gladbrook-Reinbeck to take a 40-22 victory on the road against Tripoli (2-2) on Friday, moving the Rebels to 4-0.

Isaac Clark threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns, while Drew Eilers added 93 yards and two scores through the air. Ethan Gienger and Caleb Egesdal were the primary targets, as Eilers caught three passes for 108 yards and three scores while Egesdal had 131 yards and one touchdown on four receptions.

Luke Riffey led the G-R ground gainers with 82 yards on three carries, while Drake Blakesley added 29 yards and a touchdown. Clark also scored a rushing TD.

The Rebels forced five turnovers, with Tristan Sanford-Anders recovering two fumbles and each of Riffey, Gienger and Egesdal recording an interception.
