SPORTS SHORTS: No. 5 Rebels make quick work of Janesville

REINBECK — Five players scored in double figures as the Class 1A No. 5 Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ basketball team dispatched Janesville with ease, winning 92-31 in Thursday’s non-conference contest.

Luke Riffey knocked down four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 21 points to lead the Rebels (15-1). Caleb Egesdal also made four 3-pointers on his way to 17 points, and William Kiburis also scored 17 points. Hudson Clark and Austin Vaverka chipped in with 10 points apiece off the bench.

Drew Eilers added eight points and Isaac Clark seven for G-R, which led 29-11 after the opening period of play.

Keegan Eastman scored 15 points to lead Janesville (10-8).

Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls handle Wildcats with ease

REINBECK — Three players scored in double figures as the Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls’ basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 61-14 rout of Janesville on Thursday night.

Megan Cooley scored 12 of her team-leading 15 points in the first half for the Rebels. Kennedy Brant netted 12 points and Elly Sieh added 10 as Gladbrook-Reinbeck (8-10) led from wire-to-wire. Lauren Boyer contributed six points and Emma McClintock chipped in five.

The Rebels led 21-6 after the opening quarter and 44-12 by halftime. Janesville (1-17) was unable to score in the third quarter and got just two points in the fourth.

Hope Hovenga, Zoey Killion and Keke Smith had four points each for the Wildcats.
