For seniors Nile Christensen and Gavin Jablonski, it was a fond farewell to their careers as Marshalltown tennis players.

For their playing partners, junior Rebekah Downs and sophomore Kennedy Feldman, it was another fun, competitive meet on their marvelous home courts.

Both Bobcat tandems went 2-1 in their final matches of the season during Tuesday’s IHSAA/IGHSAU Class 2A State Co-Ed Tennis Tournament at the Marshalltown Court Complex.

The duo of Jablonski and Feldman finished in a tie for ninth place after winning their first two matches before a quarterfinal loss. Christensen and Downs coupled up to win their first bout, fall in their second and finish with a win in the consolation bracket.

Feldman and Jablonski began their tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over the Waterloo West duo of Lydia Orr and Benjamin Young. In the next round, Marshalltown’s pairing outlasted the West Des Moines Valley tandem of Luke Berg and Masha Shapiro, 7-6, 6-4.
