SPORTS SHORTS: Balanced scoring propels Cyclone women through NDSU

AMES — Six players scored in double figures as the Iowa State women’s basketball team beat North Dakota State 89-59 on Sunday night at Hilton Coliseum.

It marked the first time in seven years that the Cyclones (5-4) had that many players reach double-digits in the scoring column.

Iowa State used a 10-0 run during the first quarter to pull away from the Bison (4-6) early, and the Cyclones continued to pull away for the remainder.

Addy Brown led Iowa State with 16 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists. Hannah Belanger added 15 points thanks to three 3-pointers, and Nyamer Diew had 12 points. Isnelle Natabou (11) and Jalynn Bristow (11) both got into the scoring act off the bench.

Heaven Hamling scored a game-high 18 points to pace North Dakota State.

Iowa State continues its homestand by hosting Troy next Sunday at noon.

DeVries scores 25 to power Drake past Nevada

HENDERSON, Nev. — Tucker DeVries had 25 points in Drake’s 72-53 win over Nevada on Saturday night.

DeVries also added seven rebounds and five assists for the Bulldogs (9-1). Atin Wright scored 12 points and added four steals. Kevin Overton had nine points and shot 4 for 15, including 1 for 9 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs picked up their sixth straight win.

The Wolf Pack (7-1) were led by Tyler Rolison, who recorded 10 points and six rebounds. Jarod Lucas added 10 points for Nevada. In addition, K.J. Hymes finished with nine points. The loss snapped the Wolf Pack’s seven-game winning streak.

Moss scores 21 as Toledo downs Northern Iowa

TOLEDO, Ohio — Ra’Heim Moss’ 21 points helped Toledo defeat Northern Iowa 84-80 on Saturday.

Moss added three steals for the Rockets (5-4). Tyler Cochran scored 19 points and added 12 rebounds. Javan Simmons had 13 points.

Toledo took the lead with three minutes to go then needed two free throws by Cochran with two seconds left to seal the win.

The Panthers (3-7) were led in scoring by Bowen Born, who finished with 31 points and two steals. Northern Iowa also got 12 points from Trey Campbell. In addition, Jacob Hutson finished with 12 points.
