PREP FOOTBALL: Mustangs move to 3-0 by blanking Rockets, 35-0
LE GRAND — The East Marshall football team improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2005 with a 35-0 victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Friday night.
The Mustangs made off with 406 yards of total offense and in balanced fashion. Senior quarterback Jake Farrington was 6-for-13 passing for 190 yards and three touchdowns, while East Marshall’s backfield ran for a combined 216 yards. Kaden Grant piled up 95 yards and a touchdown, Xavier Slifer had 71 yards and a score, and Drew Wheater added 46 yards.
Blake Neuroth led the receiving corps with two catches for 75 yards with a touchdown, Slifer had a 60-yard touchdown catch, and Eli Burns added two grabs for 45 yards and a score.
Cody Weaver led the Mustang defense with 9.5 tackles, while Wyatt Stalzer had seven tackles, including four for loss.
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (0-3) managed just 91 yards of total offense.
Spartans slam Pella Christian to remain unbeaten
PELLA — The Grundy Center football team started 3-0 for the third year in a row thanks to Friday’s 40-7 triumph over Pella Christian.
A balanced Grundy Center offense accumulated 387 yards. Judd Jirovsky was 11-for-14 for 188 yards and three touchdowns, while Pete Lebo ran 13 times for 145 yards and a score. Jirvosky added a rushing TD as the Spartans threw for 198 yards and rushed for 189. Tiernan Vokes led the receivers with six grabs for 124 yards and all three touchdowns.
Ryker Thoren led the Grundy Center defense with eight tackles. Jirovsky pulled down an interception while Grant Newton and Charlie Rinard had fumble recoveries.
Pella Christian (0-3) was led by Cooper Spronk, who carried 16 times for 150 yards and a touchdown.
Redhawks get first win with trip to AGWSR
AGWSR — The North Tama football team got its first win of the season, beating AGWSR 38-9 on Friday night.
The Redhawks (1-2) beat the Cougars (1-3) for the third time in the last four years behind a potent offense. North Tama tallied 426 yards of total offense, with quarterback Kolt Knaack atoning for 324 of them. Knaack was 18-for-21 passing for 236 yards and two touchdowns, hooking up with Josh Dostal six times for 94 yards and both scores. Knaack also rushed 14 times for 88 yards, while Gavin Rausch rushed 11 times for 87 yards and three touchdowns.
Tyrus Luker kicked in with seven receptions for 72 yards, and Bryar Hall had two grabs for 42 yards.
Rausch led the Redhawk defense with 8.5 tackles, including a quarterback sack, while Dostal and Kavyin Morris both came up with interceptions.
Trojans toppled by Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 16-13
STATE CENTER — The West Marshall football team suffered at the hands of Hampont-Dumont-CAL, falling 16-13 on Friday night.
The Trojans (1-2) were limited to 138 yards of offense by the Bulldogs, a Class 3A school. Ben Gonzalez rushed 15 times for 73 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Vincent Clawson had 10 carries for 40 yards. Clawson finished 2-for-10 passing for 17 yards and two interceptions. AJ Dee (12 yards) and Holden Simms (5) both had one catch.
Michael Lechnir led the Trojan defense with nine tackles, including two for loss, and Caden Pfantz added eight stops. Dee recovered two fumbles and Kinnick Geers added an interception, but the Trojans came up just short.
Colin Bird rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown for H-D-C, which also got an 87-yard kickoff return for touchdown from Brody Strother.
Huskies outscore BCLUW football with rushing attack
NASHUA — Nashua-Plainfield pulled away from a close game early for a 41-20 win over BCLUW in Friday’s football clash.
The host Huskies (3-0) led 13-7 after the first quarter before scoring 35 points between the second and third to take control. Nashua-Plainfield rushed for all of its 370 yards of offense, led by Aiden Geiner’s 18 carries for 152 yards and four touchdowns.
BCLUW was led by Wyatt Gould, who rushed 18 times for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He also had four catches for 17 yards. Emmitt Petermeier had six runs for 96 yards, while quarterback Carson Wayman rushed for 31 yards and a touchdown.
Wayman went 4-for-9 passing for 17 yards with two interceptions, but he also recovered a fumble for the defense. Maverick Grafke made 9.5 tackles while Petermeier had 6.5 stops. Maddin Helms pulled down an interception.
