Comet volleyball 2-2 at Dunkerton tourney
DUNKERTON — BCLUW volleyball reached the semifinals of a tournament in Dunkerton on Saturday, ending their day with a 2-2 record against some tough competition.
The Comets were the runners-up in their pool, sweeping Waterloo Christian 21-13, 21-14 and West Central 21-8, 21-4 before running into Ankeny Christian, last year’s Class 1A state champions, who rallied for a 22-24, 21-16, 15-12 win in the two teams’ first meeting since last year’s state semifinals.
Grace Farnsworth struck down 11 kills against ACA and Virginia Kaisand added five kills. Klayre Gallentine added seven digs and three ace serves.
BCLUW moved on to championship bracket play with Aplington-Parkersburg, who won their pool with a perfect 3-0 record. The Falcons, ranked seventh in Class 2A, defeated the Comets for the third time in the last seven days, coming back to down BCLUW 23-25, 25-18, 15-7.
Olivia Peters had eight kills for the Comets, with Kaisand adding six kills and three total blocks. Gallentine contributed seven digs and Raegan Crawford had six digs.
The Falcons fell to ACA in the tournament finals — the Eagles won 25-15, 25-21.
BCLUW fell to 15-5 overall, with all five losses coming to ranked teams. The Comets return to Iowa Star action at Collins-Maxwell on Tuesday.
