GARWIN — Olivia Maddux and Makayla Pendleton had eight kills each in a GMG sweep of Collins-Maxwell for Monday’s first-round matchup in Class 1A Region 5 at GMG High School.

The Wolverines won 25-11, 25-10, 25-18. GMG (19-10) will welcome Baxter for a quarterfinal matchup in Garwin on Wednesday.

Landry August contributed six kills and Anna Mussig and Rhianna Murty had three kills each. Maddux added six digs, a block and four ace serves. The Wolverines landed 14 ace serves in total on Monday, including five for Hadlee Hempy and three for August. Aubree Runner had a team-leading seven digs.

GMG swept the Bolts on Oct. 10 in their Iowa Star meeting. The winner will face either Gladbrook-Reinbeck or Waterloo Christian in a regional semifinal on Monday, Oct. 28.
