Pollard takes 5th at MVC golf tourney

DES MOINES — JD Pollard led Northern Iowa men’s golf to a sixth-place finish at Tuesday’s Missouri Valley Conference Championships at Des Moines Golf and Country Club.
Pollard, a 2019 Marshalltown High School alum finishing up his redshirt senior season with the Panthers, shot an even-par 72 with five birdies in his final round to finish in fifth place overall, his first top-10 finish at the MVC meet and earning All-MVC Team recognition. He was 3-under-par for the tournament, shooting rounds of 70-71-72–213.
UNI’s scorecard rounded out with Connor VanWeelden and Cooper Hanson shooting 223s to tie for 24th, followed by Tanner Dinnebier with a 225 and Calen Bishop with a 228.
The Panthers were five strokes behind Valparaiso in fifth and finished three ahead of seventh-place Southern Illinois. Illinois State won the team title with an 8-under 856 team total, while Murray State freshman Trey Wall won the individual title with a three-day total of 10-under 206.
