SPORTS SHORTS: Comets, Rebels move on to district boys golf

BELLE PLAINE — The BCLUW and Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys’ golf teams both advanced through sectionals at Wednesday’s Class 1A meet at Belle Plaine Country Club.

South Hamilton claimed the sectional team title with a 324, followed by the Comets (334) and Rebels (349). G-R had a 21-stroke cushion over fourth-placed Baxter (370) in the seven-team tournament. GMG was seventh with a 479.

Zaden Eggers was the runner-up medalist with a 78 to lead the Comets, trailing only South Hamilton’s Luke Martensen who shot 75.

BCLUW got an 81 for Nate Bishop for fourth place, Beau Towne was sixth individually with an 84, and Carter McCready came in 18th with a 91 to round out the Comets’ scoring.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck was led by an 83 from Andrew Knaack, good for fifth overall. Cole Fleshner contributed an 88, while Brayden Utter, Austen Mathern and Michael Boyd all shot 89 for the Rebels.

GMG was led by a 101 for Jay Bru. Brayton Davis (123), Drayson Stephenson (124) and Jacob Beaderstadt (131) completed the Wolverines’ scoring.

Redhawks unable to advance through sectional golf

WINTHROP — The North Tama boys’ golf team was denied advancement through Wednesday’s Class 1A sectional tournament at Buffalo Creek Golf Course.

The Redhawks shot a 347 team score to finish fifth in the seven-team meet. Host East Buchanan (312), North Linn (319) and Central City (325) earned spots at districts.

North Tama’s individual scoring was not available as of press time.
