Four Bobcats named unanimous all-conference
Four members of the Marshalltown girls’ soccer team were unanimously selected to the Iowa Alliance Conference’s all-North Division first team in a vote of the league’s coaches.
Seniors McKenna Coleman and Gissel Hernandez Ibarra were joined by junior Jorja Janssen and freshman Fatima Ramirez Rosas as unanimous first-team selections to the 13-player squad at the conclusion of the spring season.
It’s the first first-team honor for all four Bobcats.
Coleman led the Alliance North in goal scoring after racking up 18 goals this season. She was one of six players to score two goals during the team’s three divisional games this past spring. Coleman finished her prep career with 32 goals and four assists.
Hernandez Ibarra finished this season with three goals and one assist as a midfielder for the Bobcats, who went 11-4-3 overall with a 1-1-1 North Division mark.
Coleman and Hernandez Ibarra were both previously voted to the all-conference second team twice.
Janssen was an honorable mention all-conference selection two seasons ago. She contributed one goal this season while helping to lead a defense that allowed just 1.28 goals per game this season while pitching nine shutouts. Ramiraz Rosas was a part of that back line for the Bobcats as well, contributing two assists in her debut season.
Four more Marshalltown players received all-conference second-team honors: seniors Yuri Ramirez Rosas and Kenya Gomez Reyes, junior Lilyia Christen and sophomore Sophia Valdez Chavez.
Yuri, a midfielder, racked up nine goals and a team-leading five assists for the Bobcats this spring. Gomez Reyes, also a midfielder, finished with three goals and one assist.
Christen, a forward, was third on the team with six goals and second with three assists, while Valdez Chavez ranked 31st among Class 3A goalkeepers with 62 saves this season.
Senior Stefani Gutierrez, sophomore Frankie Long and freshman Katie Gomez Reyes all received honorable mention — the first all-conference honor for all three Bobcats.
