Combined no-no vaults Bobcats around Nevada

NEVADA — Sophomore pitchers Briley Danielson and Hanna Osgood combined on a no-hitter as the Marshalltown softball team notched an 11-0 win over Nevada on Monday night to close out the regular season.

Both Danielson and Osgood pitched two innings, with Danielson retiring all six batters she faced for the win. Osgood walked No. 9 hitter Olivia Huff with two outs in the bottom of the third, but didn’t give up a hit in her two innings of work. Danielson struck out one, while Osgood struck out two in teaming up for the Bobcats’ fifth shutout pitching performance of the season.

Marshalltown (18-20) gave its pitchers plenty of cushion to work with by scoring six times in the top of the first inning. The first nine batters all reached base, as three-straight RBI singles by Aubree Mundt, Danielson and Kaelyn Coleman got the Bobcats going. Osgood and Ella DeMonte worked bases-loaded walks, and leadoff batter Gianna Baune had a run-scoring groundout in her second at-bat of the first.

Abby Janssen and Osgood later added RBI singles, while Baune tripled and scored the Bobcats’ final run in the fourth.

Nevada pitcher Tempy Carsrud surrendered 10 earned runs on seven hits, eight walks and one hit batter in 2 2/3 innings for the loss. Kenzie Bielenberg got the final five outs for the Cubs (3-18).

Danielson went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and her courtesy runner Rayelle Brott scored three times. Mundt was 1-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Marshalltown will host Des Moines Lincoln in the first round of Class 5A Region 6 play on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the MHS diamond.

Starting at $4.38/week.
