LE GRAND — Peyton Grabenbauer took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and Ashtyn Wheater homered as the East Marshall softball team slammed Panorama 9-1 in six innings in Wednesday’s Class 2A Region 4 quarterfinal.

Lebo launches another as Spartans club Cadets

GRUNDY CENTER — Pete Lebo homered for the third game in a row and the Class 2A No. 9 Grundy Center baseball team blanked Crestwood 8-0 in Tuesday’s District 6 semifinal game at the George Wilhelm Sports Complex.

Lebo hit a three-run home run in the first inning and added a two-run single in the team’s five-run fifth, leading the Spartans (22-3) into Saturday night’s district finals against North Fayette Valley (7-25). The TigerHawks knocked off No. 10 Sumner-Fredericksburg, 2-1, in Tuesday’s first game in Grundy Center.

Spartan starting pitcher Judd Jirovsky scattered four hits over five innings for the win, striking out 10, and Ryker Thoren struck out one in two scoreless innings of relief to close it out.

Lebo finished 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBIs to lead the offense. Brayden Davie was 2-for-4 with a run, Jirovsky was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run, and Ethan Meester was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Brody Zinkula singled home a run as well.

West Marshall stifles South Hardin for 3-0 victory

NEW HAMPTON — The West Marshall baseball team scratched together three runs in the first two innings and held off South Hardin for a 3-0 win in Tuesday’s Class 2A District 14 semifinal game at Mikkelson Park.

Noah DeSotel struck out 12 in a four-hit shutout for the Trojans (23-9), allowing three singles, a double, and one hit batsman in the 81-pitch performance.

West Marshall’s run in the bottom of the first inning proved to be enough. AJ Dee was hit by a pitch, moved to third on a Caden Pfantz single and scored on a DJ Ridout groundout to first.

In the second inning, Dawson Bear walked and Holden Simms was plunked before Drake Whitaker hit an RBI single. Dee’s groundout got the final run home.

Garrett Anderson pitched three innings in a losing cause for South Hardin (19-9), allowing three runs on two hits and four total walks while striking out one. Joshua Spindler threw three scoreless innings in relief, but the Tigers couldn’t piece together any offense.

West Marshall will host Osage (15-11) in Saturday’s 7 p.m. district final at Schilling Field. The Green Devils defeated New Hampton, 5-3, to advance.

Redhawk softball team can’t catch Tigers

MADRID — The North Tama softball team saw its season draw to a close with a 4-1 loss to Madrid in Monday’s Class 1A Region 8 opening-round game.

The Redhawks (5-14) managed just a solo run in the sixth inning, which at the time cut their deficit in half. Madrid (9-20) didn’t score until getting two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Tigers tacked on another two in the home half of the sixth.

Addison Hochstetler scored the lone run for North Tama. Violet Seda had two hits to lead the team, while Gabriella Seda doubled and walked. Faith Dvorak, Gabby Velasco and Lily Sell added singles.

Hochstetler got the loss in the circle, scattering 12 hits, two walks and a hit batter over six innings while striking out four.
