Bobcat golfers third at Dick Garth Invite

MASON CITY — The Marshalltown boys’ golf team took third place at Mason City’s Dick Garth Invite on Friday at Highland Park Golf Course.

Sophomore Joe Greazel earned runner-up medalist honors after shooting a 1-under-par round of 71, leading the Bobcats to a 319 team total.

Host Mason City won the meet with a 311, followed by Waterloo West (317) and the Bobcats. Fort Dodge (327) was fourth out of six teams.

Mason City’s Nathan Berkley was the meet medalist with a 2-under 70.

MHS sophomore Gavin Misek tied for seventh place to represent the Bobcats’ second scoring round with an 80. Jacob Seberger and Trae Misek both shot 84 to round out the team scoring. Bryson Payne and Parker Christen both shot 89 for the Bobcats.

Marshalltown is back in action with the Ankeny Invite on Wednesday at Otter Creek Golf Course.

Hawkeye women finalize non-conference slate

IOWA CITY — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team will play seven home games inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena as part of its non-conference schedule for the 2025-26 season, it was announced Thursday by head coach Jan Jensen.

The Hawkeyes will play one preseason exhibition game, hosting Ashland on Oct. 30. Iowa opens the regular season at home against Southern University on Nov. 3, followed by Evansville on Nov. 9. The Hawkeyes’ first in-state matchup will be against Drake on Nov. 13 in Iowa City, before traveling to face UNI in Cedar Falls on Nov. 16 and playing host to Fairfield on Nov. 30.

The Hawkeyes wrap up their non-conference road schedule on Dec. 10 with the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series matchup at Iowa State, before returning home to face Lindenwood on Dec. 13.

Iowa will also play neutral-site contests against Baylor on Nov. 20 and Miami (FL) on Nov. 22 as part of the WBCA Showcase in Orlando, Florida. The Hawkeyes will then take on reigning National Champion UConn on Dec. 20 at the Women’s Champions Classic in Brooklyn, New York.
