MHS cross country teams compete at Knoxville Invite

KNOXVILLE — The Marshalltown girls’ cross country team finished fifth at the Knoxville Invitational on Tuesday at Pine Knolls Golf Club.

Grace Whitmore led the Bobcats with a 17th-place finish, clocking in at 22 minutes, 58 seconds. Anessa Morrison was 23rd in 23:22, while Lily Johnson (24:51) and Mallory Meyeraan (24:58) finished consecutively in 43rd and 44th. Sophia Valdez Chavez rounded out the Bobcats’ scoring runners in 73rd with a time of 27:20.

Marshalltown totaled 128 points to finish ahead of Knoxville (144) out of six scoring teams. West Des Moines Valley was first with 18 points, led by medalist Evelynne Gauthier in a winning time of 20:33.

The Bobcat boys sent their junior varsity roster to Knoxville and the squad took seventh out of 10 scoring teams with 156 points. Grinnell claimed the team title with 23 points, well ahead of Valley (70) and Oskaloosa (85).

Adam Bouhssine paced the MHS boys by finishing 28th with a time of 19:36. Cooper McLeod was 31st in 19:52, followed by Pablo Fabian in 35th (19:59), Carson Wright in 46th (20:25) and Josue Corral Coronado in 60th (20:59).

Grinnell’s Cadel Conner edged Knoxville’s Isaac Rankin for the individual title, clocking in at 16:26 and 16:29, respectively.
