MHS boys swimming cuts time in loss to Roughriders

The Marshalltown boys’ swimming team fell to 0-2 despite a ton of early-season time drops with Thursday’s 92-78 setback at the hands of Des Moines Roosevelt inside the MHS pool.

The Bobcats won five events but couldn’t get score enough points to pick up their first dual win of the season.

MHS first-year head coach Ray Dulaney pointed to 25 lifetime-best times and 47 season-bests as reasons to look forward.

“We knew it was going to be a competitive meet and the results stood up to the predictions,” Dulaney said. “Our boys made this a meet all the way to the last race of the night. All across the lineup, boys took on the challenge and showed great competitiveness.”

Kade Randall claimed a pair of individual wins for Marshalltown, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 15.16 seconds, and the 100 freestyle in 54.46. Jacob Seberger scored two wins of his own, topping the 50 freestyle in 24.08 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.90.

Both were a part of the Bobcats’ winning 200 freestyle relay quartet, teaming with Jack Nelson and Eli Randall for a winning time of 1:36.99.
