Lincoln swimmers top Bobcats to stay unbeaten
DES MOINES — Des Moines Lincoln remained unbeaten on the season with a 101-69 victory over the Marshalltown boys’ swimming squad on Thursday night, winning nine of 11 events in the Iowa Alliance Conference dual.
The Railsplitters (5-0-1) claimed the first nine events and Marshalltown (2-3) took the final two.
“Credit to Lincoln, they swam lights-out and we swam like it was our second big meet of the week,” said Marshalltown head coach Raymond Dulaney. “I am proud of how the team fought and finished the meet.”
Jacob Seberger scored victory in the penultimate event — the 100-yard breaststroke — with a time of 1 minute, 7.17 seconds, and the Bobcat quartet of Jack Nelson, Joe Greazel, Kade Randall and Aaron Hunter clipped Lincoln in the 400 freestyle relay. MHS won the final event by just 68-hundredths of a second, 3:46.17 to Lincoln’s 3:46.85.
The Railsplitters took the top two spots in three events and swept the top three in another.
“We knew it would be another close meet that would test our abilities,” added Dulaney.
Seberger’s third-place finish in the 50 freestyle came with a clocking of 23.88, just 36-hundredths out of first place and 13-hundredths shy of second. Jack Nelson’s third-place clocking in the 500 freestyle was only 54-hundredths behind the runner-up.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday for their third meet in a five-day span, visiting Waterloo’s Central Middle School pool for the Wahawk Invite at 12:30 p.m.
