SPORTS SHORTS: Comets fall to Dunkerton in Iowa Star Challenge
DUNKERTON — The Dunkerton boys’ basketball team won all four quarters of a 62-37 triumph over BCLUW in Saturday’s Iowa Star Conference Challenge.
The host Raiders (13-8) got a game-high 22 points from Colin Snyder, who shot 6-of-8 from 3-point range. Shiloh Schuety added 12 points and Caybrin Schilling chipped in 11.
Adam Frank led BCLUW (9-11) with 11 points and Wyatt Gould chipped in seven points. Daniel Zoske had six points and 11 rebounds, and Eathan Petermeier pitched in with five points, five boards and three assists.
BCLUW girls bounced by Don Bosco, 49-28
GILBERTVILLE — The BCLUW girls’ basketball team suffered its 15th-straight loss as Don Bosco claimed Saturday’s Iowa Star Conference Challenge clash, 49-28.
Rachel Knepper led the host Dons (4-14) with 17 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five assists. Charlie Klein came away with 15 points and 10 boards.
Chloe Switzer had 14 points and nine rebounds, while Addison Moeller had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead BCLUW (1-15). Adelynn Zoske scored the Comets’ only other basket.
Wolverines take Iowa Star South clash with Comets
CONRAD — The GMG girls’ basketball team started fast and finished off BCLUW for a 43-29 win in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division clash.
The Wolverines (11-9, 8-4) led 20-5 by halftime and cruised to the league victory from there. Taelyn Sash scored a team-high 11 points for GMG, Arianna Pierce got 10 points, nine steals and six rebounds, while Skyler Murty and Grace Mathern got seven points apiece.
Chloe Switzer led BCLUW (1-14, 1-11) with 14 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Adelynn Zoske got six points, Addison Moeller had five points and 10 boards, and Kara Hill chipped in four points, four rebounds and three steals.
Mustang matmen get five match wins at Iowa Falls-Alden
IOWA FALLS — The East Marshall boys’ wrestling team went 0-3 at the Iowa Falls-Alden Quad on Thursday, getting five match wins on the night.
The Mustangs fell in their duals against Fort Dodge St. Edmond (36-24), Iowa Falls-Alden (66-10) and Ballard (63-6).
East Marshall earned three of its match wins against St. Edmond, getting consecutive wins from Jamie Holmes at 120 pounds, Carter Charma at 126 and Koda Wur at 132. Holmes won a narrow decision, 11-10, Charma tallied an 18-3 technical fall, and Wur pinned his opponent at the end of the first period.
Jordan Meling (138) notched an 11-2 major decision over Iowa Falls-Alden’s Jase Ites for East Marshall’s lone win against the Cadets, while Cael Drury (285) got the Mustangs’ victory against Ballard with a pin of Carter Dietrich in 2:24.
