BIG FOUR HOOPS: No. 9 Iowa beats Wisconsin to secure No. 2 seed in B1G

MADISON, Wis. — Ava Heiden had 16 points and 14 rebounds, Chadazi Wright added 14 points and No. 9 Iowa secured the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament with an 81-52 victory over Wisconsin on Sunday in the regular-season finale.

Playing without injured leading rebounder and No. 2 scorer Hannah Stuelke, Iowa (24-5, 15-3) led 33-29 at the half and had a 26-9 edge in the third quarter.

Taylor Stremlow had 12 points and Layla Hays and Teagan Mallegni each had 10 for Iowa. The Hawkeyes have won six straight after dropped three in a row.

Destiny Howell had 23 points for Wisconsin (13-16, 5-13). The Badgers have lost nine straight.

Cyclones stamp out K-State to close out schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Iowa State women’s basketball team closed its regular season with a resounding 93-79 victory over Kansas State on Sunday at Bramlage Coliseum, improving to 21-8 overall and 9-8 in Big 12 play.

ISU standout Audi Crooks was unstoppable, pouring in 41 points — her fifth career 40-point game and fourth this season — while also pulling down 13 rebounds. Crooks shot 16-of-19 from the field and hit all nine of her free throws.

Kansas State was led by Jordan Speiser’s 17 points.

Penn State scores surprise win over Iowa

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Josh Reed scored a career-high 25 points, shooting 9 of 12 from the field, and Penn State rallied to beat Iowa 71-69 on Saturday, ending the Nittany Lions’ three-game losing streak.

Freddie Dilione V scored 15 points, and Ivan Juric scored 11 for the Nittany Lions (12-17, 3-15 Big Ten). Penn State finished 64% shooting (25-for-39), including 60% (9-for-15) from 3-point range.

Cooper Koch scored 18 points, shooting 6 for 9, and Bennett Stirtz added 16 for Iowa (20-9, 10-8).

Knotted at 69, Dilione was fouled on a drive to the hoop with 1.5 seconds left and promptly made two free throws for the go-ahead foul shots. Iowa failed to get off a shot after a timeout while facing the full length of the floor.

Panthers pound Drake 75-53

DES MOINES — Will Hornseth’s 16 points helped Northern Iowa defeat Drake 75-53 on Sunday.

Hornseth finished 7 of 11 from the field for the Panthers (19-12, 11-9 Missouri Valley Conference). Ben Schwieger shot 6 for 11, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc to add 15 points. Tristan Smith had 12 points and shot 5 of 7 from the field and 2 for 3 from the free-throw line.

Eli Shetlar led the way for the Bulldogs (12-19, 6-14) with 15 points. Owen Larson added 15 points for Drake. Wilguens Jr. Exacte finished with nine points and six rebounds. The loss is the ninth straight for the Bulldogs.
