Marshalltown High School’s all-time leading 3-point shooter will take his long-range game across town to Marshalltown Community College next season to join the Tigers on the basketball court.
Smith announced his commitment to the MCC men’s basketball program on his Instagram account on Monday morning, following in the footsteps of two of his brothers before him. Older brothers Tony and Jacob both played at least one season for the Tigers after high school.
“I am extremely excited to announce my next chapter and commitment to Marshalltown Community College to continue my academic and athletic career,” Smith wrote on his social media post. “I would like to give glory to God first and foremost for giving me this opportunity and he is the reason I am able to play a game I love. I then want to say thank you to my family, coaches, and friends who have supported me as well. None of this is possible without you.
“This is one of the many chapters to come and am excited to get to work! Roll Tigers!”
Kyle will graduate as Marshalltown’s 3-point leader after making 228 triples in three seasons as a Bobcat. He’s the fifth-leading scorer in school history with 1,018 points, having averaged 14.34 points per game over 71 games at MHS.
Jacob (28th, 619 points) and Tony (50th, 514) are both on the Bobcats’ all-time scoring list as well.
Tony played two seasons at MCC, seeing the court 19 times and scoring 28 points from 2016-2018. Jacob started in 22 of 31 games in the 2019-2020 campaign, averaging 4.3 points per game for the Tigers and current head coach Ryan Flack.
Kyle played in just five games as a freshman before starting all but once in his final three years as a Bobcat. He was the team’s leading scorer and rebounder all three seasons under head coach Michael Appel, who also played at MCC before going on to play at Division II Southwest Minnesota State University.
The Tigers finished the 2025-26 season with an 8-23 record that included an 0-4 mark in Division I of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
