Students, community to interact at Marshalltown Schools Trunk-or-Treat

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - This year’s Marshalltown High School Trunk-or-Treat is set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the MHS staff parking lot, as shown here.

Now entering its third year as a Marshalltown Schools tradition, the Trunk-or-Treat Halloween event will invite families to meet students and enjoy some candy next week.

The event will take place at the Marshalltown High School staff parking lot, which is located at the corner of East Olive Street and Bobcat Boulevard on the south side of the Roundhouse. It runs 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

“It’s organized by the Student Senate. Dozens of student groups have a vehicle there, a lot of the students will dress up and hand out candy to the kids and families,” said district Director of Communications Andrew Potter.

He said the event is meant to dovetail with the larger Marshalltown Trick-or-Treat scheduled that same evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“If (trick-or-treaters) are going to homes, they can stop by the MHS parking lot and swing through there, too,” Potter said.

He said Trunk-or-Treat has proven to be a popular community event since it began and students enjoy interacting with kids every year.

Student groups figuring out how they will dress up for the celebration, Potter said.

“I see the students have gotten really into decorating their cars,” he said. “They get into it as well.”
