‘Pollinators: Farmstead to Field’ is Aug. 29

Join Tama County Women, Land & Legacy for its upcoming event, “Pollinators: Farmstead to Field.” It will be held on Aug. 29 at 2682 N. Ave. in rural Toledo, approximately one mile north of the entrance to Otter Creek Park. The event will begin at 6 p.m. Since this is an outdoor event, a raindate is scheduled for Aug. 31 at the same time and location. “Pasture-appropriate” footwear and clothing are recommended for uneven terrain and tall vegetation.

This event is free and open to the general public, both women and men. An RSVP is preferred by Aug. 26 by phoning 641-484-2702, ext. 3 or by emailing melody.bro@ia.nacdnet.net.

The evening on pollinators will include Allie Rath, senior farm bill wildlife biologist for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever in Iowa. Rath shares her wildlife habitat expertise with landowners in Tama, Benton, Linn and Buchanan Counties and provides leadership and training for Iowa Pheasants Forever staff statewide. With more than 16 years of experience, Rath helps private landowners and farmers to create, maintain or manage wildlife habitat, largely through the Conservation Reserve Program and state and federal cost-share programs.

The event’s second stop of the evening will be a nearby farmstead well-known for its pollinator-friendly flower beds. Bring a lawn chair and join in refreshments. Attendees will also hear information about ISU Extension & Outreach’s Master Gardener program.

Women, Land & Legacy is currently active in 39 Iowa counties and brings together Iowans interested in agriculture, local food and natural resources to converse, listen and become empowered for involvement on their landscape and in their communities.

Persons with disabilities who require accommodations to participate in this meeting should contact Larry Jones 641-484-2702, ext. 3, at least 48 hours prior to the event or dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunication relay services.
